According to Russian experts, Trump’s decision to include the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the US list of terrorist foreign organizations was based solely on a propaganda domestic policy objective. But there is no doubt that Tehran will provide an answer to any action on Washington’s part.
Nezavissimaïa Gazeta, a left-wing Russian daily newspaper, wrote on Tuesday, April 9: “The Tehran authorities have assured that the actions of the US administration, which has placed the name of the IRGC on the list of terrorist organizations, will not affect the determination of these forces, which play an important role in preserving IAM security.
Experts believe that Tehran’s response to Washington’s restrictions will depend in several cases on the actions of the Trump administration.
On Monday, April 8, the Iranian Parliament recalled that the financing of the IRGC is done through the country’s domestic resources and that the US sanctions against the senior officers of this force were not unexpected but would have no impact on the activities of the IRGC. This act by the United States testifies to its defeat and the end of its political and military control over the Middle East.
Tehran authorities have hammered that any stupid action by the Americans that would jeopardize Iranian national security would receive a scathing response.
“For a long enough time, the United States refrained from placing countries’ politico-military structures on its list of terrorist organizations. The IRMF is not the only structure to have been included on this list, Lebanese Hezbollah too had suffered the same fate. While some Iranian banks cooperating with the IRGC had been included in the US sanctions list, US financial and economic restrictions had little impact on this political-military body. Tehran’s response to Washington’s restrictions will depend on the actions of the US administration,” said Yuri Liamin, Russian
“Tehran authorities avoid an intense confrontation with the United States, but if Washington takes action against the IAM, they will necessarily give it an answer,” he added.
The United States has decided to include the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a component of the Iranian army, on its list of foreign terrorist organizations,
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) “is the main means used by the Iranian government to conduct and implement its global terrorist campaign,” said Donald Trump in a statement. “If you do business with the RIMC, you finance terrorism,” he said.
Sergei Damidenko, a member of the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISRAN), believes that by placing the IRGC on the list of terrorist organisations, Trump has first and foremost tried to restore its image in the public eye.
“Indeed, Trump’s statements on the international scene are essentially meaningless. They are aimed only at American public opinion. And the restrictions against Iran are to be understood in this sense,” said Sergei Damidenko.
