The Secretary General of Lebanese Hezbollah delivered a speech on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
The Secretary-General of Lebanese Hezbollah, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, delivered a speech on Wednesday, February 6, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Nasrallah congratulated the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the Honourable Ayatollah Khamenei, the leaders of the State and the Iranian nation on this great victory, saying that this Iranian revolution was a victory for Islam, for the Islamic Ummah and for all the oppressed of the world.
“40 years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Iran has been at the forefront in several areas among the countries of the region. It is a powerful country that influences developments in the region,” said Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah.
The Secretary General of Lebanese Hezbollah recalled that the Shah ruled the country with an iron fist and that he fully followed the diktats of the United States.
“The Shah allowed the United States to plunder Iran’s oil resources and served American interests. It also maintained strategic relations with Israel and gave it free oil. At that time, Imam Khomeini, a remarkable leader and a great and courageous[political and religious] personality, took action to stand up to the Shah who was following plans leading to an even deeper dependence of the Iranian economy on the United States and Israel,” said Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah.
He added: “True independence is the greatest achievement of the Islamic Revolution, an independence that it has preserved for 40 years. Iran has preserved everything it had before the Revolution; no refinery has been destroyed, no oil wells or banks have been looted, no churches have been razed to the ground and no religious minorities have been harassed.
Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah stressed that Iran has succeeded in protecting its unity despite all attempts by the United States, the West and the United Kingdom to sow discord between Arab and Kurdish communities living in Iran.
“Not only did Tehran succeed in defeating Saddam, who was supported by the United States, the Soviet Union and the countries of the Persian Gulf, but it also embarked on a process of post-war reconstruction of the country and did not exempt itself from its regional responsibilities by supporting Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Afghanistan.
“Iran of the Shah’s time did not claim any place for itself in the production of science, while Iran today ranks first in the region and seventh in the world in the list of innovations and 16th in the world in the production of science. At the time of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, this country had only 22 universities and scientific institutions, whereas the number of these institutions currently exceeds 3,000. In 1979, only 165,000 students were studying in universities, while now some 4,800,000 Iranian students are studying at universities. Before the Revolution, women constituted only 6% of Iranian students, whereas this number currently stands at 75%. Before the Revolution, 5,800 doctors were active, while now more than 200,000 medical experts work in Iran. After the United States, Iran ranks second in the field of stem cells. The figures I have just announced have not been made public by the Iranian State but by the United Nations and other international organisations. Iran no longer needs to import medicines. Iran is at the forefront of the region in mathematics and at the 13th place in the world in mathematics and physics. This country is 18th in the world in terms of the economy and provides for 90% of its defensive needs.
The Secretary-General of Lebanese Hizbullah stressed that Iran manufactures small and medium-sized ships, boats and aircraft and has achieved self-sufficiency in electricity generation.
