As a possible resurgence of ISIS in Iraq raises increasing concerns, elements of the terrorist group are beginning to cross the Syrian borders before the eyes of the US military to reach Iraqi soil. At present, they would have a significant presence in eight Iraqi provinces.
Hisham al-Hashemi, an Iraqi researcher and expert on terrorist groups, reported the reappearance of ISIS brigades in eight Iraqi provinces.
According to him, ISIS residues have a substantial presence in remote areas near mountains, deserts and plains. They have already reconstituted brigades in the Iraqi provinces of Kirkuk, Nineveh, al-Anbar, Diyala, Salah ad-Din, as well as in northern Babil and Kerbala and on the outskirts of Baghdad.
“In order to launch special operations, the daechists are divided into groups of nine to eleven experienced, secretly and quickly acting. Especially since some of them have been involved in fighting in Baiji, al-Ramadi and Mosul. They rely on the know-how they have acquired in the field of assassination and the manufacture of explosive substances and bombs,” he explained.
“The daechists in these networks are very patient, they are able to adapt to environmental conditions, lack of food and isolation,” he noted.
Ali al-Assadi, head of the political council of the Islamic resistance movement al-Nujaba, affiliated with the Hashd al-Shaabi, said: “The entry of thousands of Daech terrorists from the Syrian borders into Iraq under the nose of the US military raises the question of who allows the daechists to cross the border. »
Warning against foreigners’ attempts to revive takfirist terrorism in Iraq, al-Asadi revealed that terrorists were carrying small arms and some gold in plain sight of the occupants and that they quietly entered Iraqi territory through the Ain al-Assad military base controlled by US troops.
This al-Nujaba authority called on the Iraqi government to reaffirm its sovereignty and restore border security with Syria.
“To face these attacks, the army and security forces must be allowed to fully play their main role, which is to ensure the country’s security,” he said.
