According to Russia Today, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a Russian fighter intercepted an American spy plane flying over the Baltic Sea near the Russian border.
“The Russian air defence system has identified the American aircraft approaching the country’s borders. The aircraft in question was immediately intercepted by a Russian Su-27,” the ministry said in a statement.
The Russian fighter approached the aircraft from a safe distance and identified it as an American RC-135 spy plane. After the Russian fighter approached the American aircraft, it left the Russian border, according to the statement.
It should be noted that this flight comes a week after another American military aircraft flew over the Russian border.
Against the backdrop of unprecedented tensions in Russian-American relations, due in particular to serious differences over their ballistic missile programmes, an American military aircraft conducted an observation flight on the territory of Russia to gather information on new Russian weapons production.
Registered 61-2670, a Boeing OC-135B Open Skies was spotted at 6:05 a.m. Moscow time in the sky of the city of Komsomolsk-on-L’Amour in the Russian Far East, where the aircraft factory manufacturing the best Russian military aircraft, including the Su-57 Soukhoï, is located, according to the PlaneRadar air surveillance portal, cited by Sputnik.
